Indian Premier League reveals salary details of retained players
After the Indian Premier League list of retained players and the released players were announced on Friday, they have now revealed details of the salary of the retained players. Some of the Indian players who have been retained by their franchise include the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Manan Vohra, Rishi Dhawan, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and Sarfaraz Khan among others.
While some of the foreign names who were retained did not surprise many, what is noteworthy is that few of the good players were retained for lesser amounts, than the previous season. The more obvious names of AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Corey Anderson, Andre Russell, Lasith Malinga, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller were also featured in the retained list.
In most cases, the amount deducted from the franchises for retaining a particular player was far more than the actual salary that the player would be paid. In other cases, the actual salary of a player was more than the amount deducted from the franchises’ purse.
Among the 23 players retained by the franchises, Indian Test captain and RCB star Virat Kohli extracted the highest pay, with 150 million rupees, The other big earners were also Indians – Shikhar Dhawan and MS Dhoni with salaries of 125 million rupees each.
