#2 Most centuries in one season: 2016 (7)

Virat Kohli hit 4 centuries out of the 7 that season

This year's IPL stands out in one particular aspect- Batsmen have cracked the code for hitting centuries. Get off a slow start, get yourself into the game and accelerate at the end of the innings. Barring Jonny Bairstow's century this season, all the other centuries had this one similar feature. All the batsmen had started slow and accelerated right at the end of the innings hitting upto 30 runs in an over.

With such a technique found to hit the big scores, batsmen especially openers will back themselves to hit centuries. The previous record for most centuries in a season was 7 centuries on 2016 when Virat Kohli himself had hit 4 centuries. That was a splendid season for him as he went on to score 976 runs that season.

However, this year unlike 2016, all the centuries have been scored by different batsmen. The only common thing amongst these players is that all of them have been openers for their teams, barring Sanju Samson. With two and a half weeks of the league left, players will be more than ready to break this record.

Also, there have been quite some missed centuries, for example when Chris Gayle remained not out on 99, or when Shikhar Dhawan went not out on 97. Even Prithvi Shaw missed out extremely closely as he got out on 99. Had these opportunities been converted the record would have been broken already.

However, with the huge number of matches left, there is a very good chance that this record will be broken this season.
