The sight of watching a batsman step out and belt the white ball straight over the sightscreen is a possibility on most occasions in a typical IPL contest. The likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli clobbered the leather at will and on-demand. While Kohli is sixth and Dhoni is fourth in the list of Most sixes by a batsman in IPL history, we wonder, which are the two names at the top.
West Indies iconic batter Chris Gayle holds the record of hitting the most sixes in the IPL history.
A player who is well-versed with the art of power-hitting gets a longer run in the T20 format. For any batter to clear the ropes nonchalantly is a great skillset to hone.
One of the greatest requirements of the modern day game is to take the attack against the opposition. Not only the crowd is enthralled when the ball is dispatched into the stands but the batter is boosted with enough confidence after the shot.
Only twice in his celebrated IPL career, Gayle racked up more than 50 sixes in one season with 59 being his best record in IPL 2012.
During his record-smashing 175 not out against now-defunct Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013, Gayle smashed 17 sixes in that splendorous innings, which is the most by any batter in IPL and yet to be surpassed or equalised.
Gayle's teammate at RCB, AB de Villiers, is placed second on the list of most sixes in IPL. The former South African batter pummeled 251 sixes in 184 matches, however, the difference between Gayle and de Villiers is 106 sixes.
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is third on the list and has hit the most sixes - 240 - by an Indian batter in the cash-rich league. Chennai Super Kings talisman MS Dhoni has walloped 229 maximums from his willow in the last 15 seasons.
There are only three left-handed batters present in the top 10 most six-hitters in IPL. Shane Watson and Kieron Pollard are the only two batters among top 10 batters with most sixes to score less than 4000 runs.
