One of the most potent melee weapons in Cyberpunk 2077, Mantis Blades are flashy, cool, and, ironically enough, useful as well. In Cyberpunk 2077, Mantis Blades are difficult to come by and even more difficult to acquire, but they effectively serve as deadly melee weapons with high damage built into your arms with cyberware.

You can deploy and retract them at any time, popping out of your limbs to slash up whatever unfortunate foe you're fighting. For those into melee combat, the blades prove to be especially useful as the light attack takes no stamina out of V and in quick succession while the heavy attack leap forward a short distance at the enemy for high damage.

How to get Mantis Blades in Cyberpunk 2077

You can take some Mantis Blades to a ripperdoc to have them installed free of charge once you've acquired some. The challenging part is acquiring. You cannot simply loot Mantis Blades off an enemy's body, even if you come across one who has them.

Mantis Blades are typically available at Night City's ripperdocs; look for them under the "arms" cyberware slot. However, just the rare-level Mantis Blades cost 20 Street Cred and roughly 16,000 euros (which are the lowest-rarity Blades you can get). The Street Cred level you need for each rarity level of Mantis Blades are:

  • Rare - Level 20

  • Epic - Level 25

  • Legendary - Level 45

Beyond the price tags, the rarity level indicates which modifications you can make to them. For example, rare mantis blades allow you to apply edge modifications, whereas epic mantis blades allow you to apply two modifications: a mantis blade rotor modification and an edge motor modification. The third mod slot on the Legendary Mantis Blades, however, can accommodate any Mantis Blade mod.

Is there a way to get Mantis Blades for free?

There is a way to get a pair of Mantis Blades for free in Cyberpunk 2077 for those who don’t want to part with their eddies in order to improve their cyberware. However, you’ll have to wait until Act 2 to get a pair of legendary Mantis Blades and this method is still available as of 2022.

To do so, players must first complete Act 1, the game's opening quest. Act 2's first entrance into Night City allows players to visit Heywood's Wellsprings neighbourhood. As soon as they enter this area, a message on their scanner should alert them to an ongoing attack.

When players arrive at the area in question, they will encounter about 5-6 hostile enemies. The players must now eliminate these enemies one by one. They can choose a covert strategy and approach the nearby adversaries. Players can also choose to use all of their strength to completely destroy their opponents.

Once the area has been cleared, players can proceed to the AV. There should be a box right next to it that contains the Legendary Mantis blades. Mantis Blades may not always be present, which is why you should save before checking the chest. If it doesn't, load your save and try again.

Mantis Blade mods in Cyberpunk 2077

In Cyberpunk 2077, there are two basic types of Mantis Blades mods. The first is a Rotor Mod that does nothing more than increase the blades' attack speed. A faster attack speed increases the amount of damage done in a given amount of time. The other mod is the Mantis Blade Edge mod, which is slightly more interesting because the game has four different types of Edge mods.

Each mod modifies the damage type of the Mantis Blades in the game and provides the user with a different type of status effect to use on their enemies. The four types are as follows:

  • Physical

  • Chemical

  • Thermal

  • Electrical

Mod NameRarityEffect

How to best use the Mantis Blades in Cyberpunk 2077

For those that are really into melee combat, then the Mantis Blades are the perfect option although they will have to spec out their character out accordingly. Thus use more points into Body and Reflexes, especially into perks that will increase melee weapon damage. Not only that but within the Reflexes section there’s a perk that increases the Mantis Blades damage by three.

The other useful perks a Mantis Blades user should look into are:

  • Flight of the Sparrow (6 Reflexes Required) – Reduces the stamina cost of all attacks with blades by 30%/50%.

  • Blessed Blades (10 Reflexes Required) – Increases Crit Chance with blades by 20%.
