Appearance

Each weapon has two forms, one when it is initially summoned and another once it has reached a certain level of ascension. Once this occurs, the weapon will undergo a change in its design. Dragon’s Bane has a long red handle that three fourths of the way up has two grey helixing dragons that meet near the base of the weapon’s spearhead, a piercing silver with black coloration at its center.

Non-Ascended

The handle of Dragon’s Bane is a dull crimson and a jewel located at the base of the spearhead lays dormant

Ascended

The coloration of Dragon’s Bane’s handle glows to a brighter shade of red. The dormant jewel at the base of the spearhead begins to glow brilliantly, and red can now be seen in the center of the spearhead that was once all black

Story

Rumored to be a legendary polearm of Liyue.

The polearm features a dragon motif that runs from handle to tip.

It used to have a dragon-shaped wooden sheath,

but now it no longer needs to contain its might.

It shall pierce through anything that stands in its way.

It is said that when Kunwu forged this Pole, he used a dragon's spine for the haft and a dragon's claw for the tip.

Hence the weapon's body is unbreakable, while its tip is sharp beyond compare — and gleams with a dragon's malice.

There once was a dragon slayer of unimaginable strength and courage, who defied the ocean's wrath and fought fiercely against the monstrosities it harbored within.

Many years after the dragon slayer had disappeared without a trace, the hopeless sound of a dragon's cry could still be heard resounding throughout the ocean.

The dragon slayer became an urban legend. In the end, both the legend and the dragon-slaying polearm were lost.

Freed at last from the shackles of its past, it displayed the full force of its ferocity once and for all, as if to mark the dragon's return to the ocean where it belonged.

Trivia

-Xiangling is seen wielding Dragon’s Bane in her character demo

-Yunjin also uses Dragon’s Bane in her official art

-Dragon’s Bane is one of only two polearms that has an Elemental Mastery substat, the other being the Kitain Cross Spear.

FAQs

Who are the best users for Dragon’s Bane?

Xiangling and Hu Tao are two of the clear standouts with the item, assuming they are used in a team centered on reactions. Xiangling’s Elemental Burst hits numerous times over the course of its duration and paired with a Hydro applier, like Xingqiu or Childe, means that there is constantly a stream of boosted Vaporize reactions. The same logic applies for Hu Tao.

Is Dragon’s Bane anyone’s BiS?

For Xiangling, it is virtually tied for her best 4-Star option alongside The Catch, although it falls behind both Engulfing Lighting and the Staff of Homa. It is Hu Tao’s BiS for 4-Star weapons, although it is inferior to Staff of Homa on her as well.

How does Dragon’s Bane work?

As long as the target is afflicted by either Hydro or Pyro, ALL damage inflicted onto the target will gain the stated % damage bonus on its passive. This means constantly reapplying the specified elements is important, and why it is typically used in Pyro/Hydro based teams looking to constantly proc Vaporize.

Final Thoughts

Dragon’s Bane is very strong in reaction centric comps, with its large bundle of Elemental Mastery substat and damage boosting passive. This does make it somewhat narrow in terms of use cases though, as EM as a stat is very dependent on the character and team composition in terms of how much you’ll get out of it. Still, used properly it is very much a good option for a 4 Star weapon and don’t be afraid to invest in it if you have the proper characters to utilize it well..
