Minecraft is going through an exciting time with so many new items and mobs being added to the game. The game is now about to get the final version of armadillo, wolf variants, and wolf armor, and in a video released on the game’s official YouTube channel, the developers discussed some interesting ideas about the game.

The Minecraft video gives an idea about what went behind the scenes and how the team came up with the ideas for the wolf armor update. The video shows one of the gameplay developers Marco Ballabio saying:

"We probably outdid the wolf armor"

Here’s everything about the interesting story behind the upcoming 1.20.5 update.

The five-minute-long video details the developmental process behind the wolf armor and armadillo update. It describes how the team came up with the concept of the armadillo, the infamous armadillo eye fix (earlier versions of the armadillo had the eyes in the front, giving it a very eerie appearance), the wolf armor, and wolf variants.

Marco Ballabio mentioned that they out-did the wolf armor, referring to the ability to customize the wolf armor by dying it. With all the different color combinations, players can have millions of different wolf armor variants. But there’s more.

The team also discusses how they came up with wolf variants and it was almost an accident. They came across some sketches that showed varieties of wolves and the team decided that it was the right time to include wolf variants in the update as well.

Since the game was adding armadillo and wolf armor, it felt right to also diversify the wolves in the game, given that wolves have been more or less the same since the Minecraft 1.4 update that came out in late 2012. With the new update, players can find eight different Minecraft wolf variants spawning in different biomes.

What’s even better is that these wolves are not just visually different, but also differ in pack size and rarity. Some wolves spawn in a pack of four while others in two or eight. Some wolves are common, while others, such as the snowy wolf, are extremely rare.

The video also talks about the need and importance of the wolf armor. With the wolf armor, players can go on adventures with their tamed wolf without the fear of losing it when attacked by mobs. The armor provides considerable protection against most of the attacks except magic and poison.
