This event was supposed to feature a rematch in the women's bantamweight division between Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana. They had previously fought in 2019, with Pennington winning by a split decision. They were also scheduled to fight before, but it didn't happen. However, Aldana was replaced as she was given the opportunity to fight Amanda Nunes for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship at a different event. Pennington will serve as a backup for that fight. As a result, a women's strawweight bout between Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill was moved from another event to headline this one instead.
