Tracy Cortez is a prominent name in professional mixed martial arts. She started training in combat sports as a teenager. Cortez initially competed in amateur mixed martial arts and gradually transitioned into professional mixed martial arts in 2017 when Invicta FC signed her as a professional fighter in their roster.

In her debut showdown, Tracy Cortez locked horns against Cheri Muraski at Invicta FC 25: Kunitskaya vs. Pa’aluhi on August 31, 2017, in a flyweight bout. Pa’uluhi defeated Cortez by a second-round submission in the bout. Unfazed by the loss, Cortez stacked up consecutive victories in her record as she made a remarkable recovery from her maiden loss in her first professional bout.

On July 30, 2019, Tracy Cortez competed in Dana White’s Contender Series 22 and faced Mariya Agapova. The bout went on for three rounds and in the end, was decided on the judges’ scorecard. Cortez was able to outclass Agapova and was adjudged the winner by a unanimous decision thus winning a UFC contract.

Tracy Cortez made her promotional debut for the UFC on November 16, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs. Jacare against Vanessa Melo in a bantamweight bout. Cortez secured a unanimous decision victory in the showdown and continued her winning run in the promotion. Tracy Cortez returned to the flyweight division a few fights later and is currently ranked No. 11 in UFC’s women's flyweight rankings.

Tracy Cortez is the lone sister of three brothers named Jose Cortez, J.R. Cortez, and Abraham Cortez. She took up mixed martial arts after watching her brother Jose Cortez compete in mixed martial arts. Jose couldn’t continue with his mixed martial arts career due to cardiovascular issues, he passed away in 2011 due to germ cell cancer.

Tracy Cortez revealed that she had a tough time dealing with her brother’s untimely and tragic demise. She has a tattoo on one of her arms in memory of her brother, Jose Cortez. As she braces up for her first main event slot in a flyweight showdown against Rose Namajunas at UFC on ESPN: Namajunas vs. Cortez on June 13, 2024, she has dedicated the fight to her late brother Jose Cortez.
