Former Dolphins exec slams Aaron Rodgers for holding the Packers as 'hostage'

Green Bay Packers v Chicago Bears
Is the quarterback's era coming to an end?

Aaron Rodgers' future with the Green Bay Packers is uncertain. He's teased the idea of leaving the one team he's played for in the past, largely due to frustration with the front office. After a down year, it's very possible that he either retires or leaves the team in the offseason.

That is a tough decision for anyone to make, especially after 17 years with a single franchise. Former Miami Dolphins executive Mike Tannenbaum understands that it might take time, but urges Rodgers to think of the Packers when doing so.

He said on Get Up on ESPN:

"They have to force a sense of urgency. Aaron, whatever you want to do, you have earned it. You're at all time great beyond reproach. However, you can't hold us hostage, you have to make a decision. You're either in or you're out because we have to go on and we have to decide what we're doing with Jordan love. And it's really unfair, the organization for you to make us twist in the wind for several months."

This is not an unfamiliar situation. The Packers have had situations where they were unsure of Rodgers' next move. However, at a critical juncture for the entire franchise, they can't afford to let him think for months and then leave them high and dry.

Where will Aaron Rodgers play next year?

It's hard to imagine the longtime Packer playing anywhere else, but it seems as genuine a possibility now as it ever has been. After an abysmal year and the fact that they traded away the only pass-catching threat on the roster, it's possible Rodgers has had enough.

That said, moving him will be difficult. There are plenty of teams that would be interested, though. With Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Jimmy Garoppolo and others set to enter free agency next season, there could be a lot of spots for the reigning MVP.

Indianapolis, who have traded for a quarterback in the last few offseasons, are a prime destination for him, but it's still not all that likely he leaves Green Bay after all.
