Garrett Nussmeier is the quarterback for the LSU Tigers as of September 2025. He is the son of former NFL player and current offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier of the Saints. He was a four-star pro-style quarterback when he graduated from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas.

Nussmeier was rated as one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation and garnered four stars from Rivals, ESPN, and 247 Sports. He was ranked No. 13 at his positional national ranking by ESPN, No. 9 in Texas, and No. 61 overall. The youngster led his team to a 9-0 record and the district title as a senior.

As a true freshman, Nussmeier was the Tigers' backup quarterback. He was given a redshirt and made four appearances. He completed the season with 329 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on 29 of 57. As a redshirt freshman, Nussmeier played in seven games and completed 52 of 84 throws for 800 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions.

He made seven appearances and made one start as a sophomore. He completed 31 of 45 throws for 395 yards and three touchdowns to start the ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Wisconsin, which ended in a 35–31 victory. He won the ReliaQuest Bowl MVP award. Nussmeier helped his team defeat Baylor in the Texas Bowl and started all 13 games. He completed 4052 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on 337 of 525 throws.

He is ranked second in LSU history and tenth in SEC history with 4,052 throwing yards. In LSU history, the 337 completions rank second, and in SEC history, they rank seventh. Nussmeier led the SEC and ranked third nationally in completions (337), and he finished second in the SEC and fifth nationally in passing yards per game (311.7).

In 2019, Nussmeier was recognized as Texas District 6-6A's MVP. He was selected for both the 2020 Under Armour All-American Game and the 2020 Texas 6A Midseason Player of the Year.

In 2020, Nussmeier finished 213 of 293 passes as a senior, gaining 2,815 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. Throughout his career, he accumulated 8,160 throwing yards and 83 touchdowns while completing 623 passes on 946 attempts with only 20 interceptions.
