
Garrett Nussmeier plays quarterback for the Southeastern Conference's LSU Tigers. He is the son of Doug Nussmeier, a former NFL coach and player. During his junior year at Edward S. Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, he passed for 3,788 yards and scored 38 touchdowns. In his senior year, he completed 2,815 yards of passing for 33 touchdowns and five interceptions. Despite receiving offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia, Baylor, and North Carolina, Nussmeier decided to play football for LSU.
In 2021, Nussmeier made four appearances and received a redshirt. He was 29-of-57 for 329 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions at the end of the season. As a redshirt freshman in 2022, he played in 7 games and completed 52 of 84 passes for 800 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. As a sophomore, Nussmeier started the ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Wisconsin. In the 35-31 victory, he completed 31 of 45 throws for 395 yards and three touchdowns.
