How much is the NFL Sunday Ticket for the 2023 season?

It's official: YouTube will take over the NFL's Sunday Ticket distribution. According to an agreement between Google and the National Football League, starting with the 2023 season, the Sunday Ticket out-of-market games package will only be accessible on YouTube.

Fans have largely praised the NFL's Sunday Ticket switch to YouTube TV, and the lower price may be even better news.

The cost of the Sunday Ticket was kept secret by YouTube. During the 2022 season, DirecTV Sunday Ticket bundles started at $293.94.

The pricing point has not been established, but one TV professional predicted it would be around $300 for the entire season, according to Monday's report by Peter King of NBC Sports.

According to Lillian Rizzo of CNBC, the DirecTV bundle with added features costs $149.99 per month, with the basic subscription to the satellite provider costs $79.99.

Superfans and football bettors can get Sunday Tickets, provided by CBS and Fox, to watch every NFL Day game on Sundays throughout the regular season (subject to local-market blackouts).

The seven-year agreement stipulates that NFL Sunday Tickets will start to be made available on YouTube TV as an add-on package and a-la-carte on the recently unveiled Primetime Channels (which don't require a YouTube TV subscription).

How much did YouTube pay for NFL Sunday Ticket rights?

The National Football League declared that starting with the upcoming season, its "Sunday Ticket" subscription package would be available on YouTube TV, marking the league's second media rights agreement with the streaming platform.

According to those with knowledge of the situation, YouTube will shell out about $2 billion annually for the residential rights to the "Sunday Ticket" bundle. The contract has a seven-year term.

The deal will increase YouTube's visibility in the cutthroat streaming market. Beginning with the 2023–24 season, "Sunday Tickets" will be accessible in two different ways: as a standalone a la carte option on YouTube Primetime Channels, which lets you subscribe to individual streaming services and channels, as well as view movies, and as an add-on package on YouTube TV.

As agreed, YouTube TV or YouTube Primetime Channels, which debuted in November with subscriptions to service providers including Starz, Showtime, and Paramount Plus, will both offer the Sunday Ticket bundle as an add-on streaming option. You can join up for Sunday Tickets under Primetime Channels without having to pay for YouTube TV.

The terms of the arrangement were kept private. With the prospect of additional performance-based payments, YouTube will reportedly pay Sunday Ticket an average of $2 billion annually, according to the Wall Street Journal, while the New York Times pegged the agreement's annual value at $2.5 billion.

In any scenario, that represents an increase over the alleged $1.5 billion per year DirecTV paid for the Sunday Ticket rights. According to estimates from the industry, the satellite TV provider has between 1.5 million and 2 million customers for the bundle.

The NFL and YouTube will, according to their joint statement, "explore further options to facilitate the distribution of NFL Sunday tickets to commercial venues such as bars and restaurants."
