Kenny Golladay fantasy outlook: Should you drop him?

Kenny Golladay is with the New York Giants

When the New York Giants signed Kenny Golladay to a four-year, $72 million contract, there were mixed reactions around the NFL. Some critics of Golladay called it a massive overpay for a wideout that had experienced only one good season in the league and had been mostly injured since.

On the other hand, his fans claimed that Kenny Golladay was overlooked and was back to the form that made him the NFL's receiving touchdowns leader in 2019.

Now that we have seen one-and-a-half seasons of Golladay in New York, it's fair to say that his critics were spot on in the assessment of the Northern Illinois alum. Golladay is still looking for his first touchdown as a Giant after 18 matches, and this season, he has been targeted a lowly six times in four games.

The Giants are on a roll, starting the season with a 6-1 record, but it wouldn't be harsh to say that Golladay has contributed next to nothing in their blistering start.

Should you drop him: Yes, like he's hot! You should immediately drop Kenny Golladay from your fantasy team, as the 2019 Pro Bowler is a shadow of his former self. What's more, it looks like the Giants have lost faith in his skills, as lesser and lesser plays are being drawn up for him on their offense.

Kenny Golladay's fantasy outlook

Kenny Golladay's fantasy outlook does not make for great reading. The former Detroit Lions Pro Bowler has not been himself since departing from the Motor City to move to the Empire State of Mind.

Golladay has played 18 times since he signed that huge contract to be a Giant, but his play has not been befitting of his undeniably vast skillset. Within that timeframe, he has a stat line of 543 receiving yards and zero touchdowns.

His fantasy outlook is pretty bleak, as one of the past decade's biggest weapons is now ranked as the 158th-best wide receiver, according to the official wide receiver ranker.

The worst part is that his role will not likely increase anytime soon, as he has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle.

Kenny Golladay timeline

Kenny Golladay was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, right out of Northern Illinois University.

On being drafted by the Lions, Golladay slowly made it up the depth chart, and he totaled 477 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his debut season. Then, as the years progressed, he kept getting bigger and better looks as the Lions' most promising receiver.

All this came full circle when Golladay led the NFL in receiving touchdowns with the Lions in 2019.

Following this major career milestone, Kenny Golladay started getting more attention from corners and safeties around the league. The next year, a niggling hamstring injury restricted him to five games, in which he had 338 receiving and two touchdowns for his efforts.

The next season, 2021, saw him move to the New York Giants for a loaf of money, but it hasn't been the same ever since. The former Pro Bowler looks like a shell of himself and might need a change of scenery.
