The NFL could be in line for a true shuffle when it comes to quarterbacks this season. A topic of conversation on the morning NFL shows was about the recent release of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
On ESPN's Get Up on Wednesday morning, NFL analyst Jeff Darlington said that he believes there could be even more movement from quarterbacks this offseason than what fans expect. He said that while everyone had their eyes on Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, Lamar Jackson, and Jimmy Garoppolo, there could be another quarterback entering focus:
"It's not just Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr. We don't know what happens with Lamar Jackson. Sure, we don't know what happens with someone like Ryan Tannehill."
Darlington said that Ryan Tannehill is also a name that could soon pop up for teams that are in need of a quarterback. He said that if a team can't land Carr or Rodgers, they aren't technically out of the ability to land a good, solid quarterback.
He claimed that this quarterback carousel is going to spin in directions that most aren't ready for, which will make this upcoming free agency period quite a frenzy.
Which NFL teams could be interested in signing QB Derek Carr?
Derek Carr was officially released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday afternoon. It was just before the deadline, which would have required the team to pay him $40.4 million in guaranteed money.
The Raiders reportedly tried to trade Carr before the release, but with his full no-trade clause, he reportedly didn't approve of any of the destinations. He will now become a free agent and is open to signing with another team.
The Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints are said to be two teams interested in signing the 31-year-old quarterback. Both are in need of a solid quarterback and Carr could be a reliable answer.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could also be interested after Tom Brady retired and backup Blaine Gabbert is now a free agent. The Bucs could turn to Kyle Trask, whom they drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft.
