NFL Rumors: Packers top brass feel Aaron Rodgers "checked out on them" after signing $150 million extension

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers had a rocky 2022 NFL season, which kept them out of the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Not exactly what the Packers had hoped for after signing the quarterback to a $150 million contract extension during the offseason.

As the quarterback's future with the team appears to hang in the balance yet again, the Packers' front office is reportedly not happy with the events that have transpired since the extension.

According to Michael Silver of Bally Sports, the Packers feel that Aaron Rodgers 'checked out' on the organization after receiving his big payday. After back-to-back NFL MVP campaigns, the 39-year-old and his offense were inconsistent all season. This could lead to them being eager to trade the quarterback and move on with Jordan Love.

Last week, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst spoke to the media at the NFL Combine and used most of his time to praise backup quarterback Jordan Love.

Even going as far as to say that he has been in contact with Love and that both have agreed that the next step is for him to become the starter. Gutekunst also made a point of saying that the team hasn't spoken to the veteran quarterback since the regular season ended.

Aaron Rodgers completed a four-day darkness retreat that ended last week. Prior to the retreat, he said that he would use the time to think about his future and contemplate his options.

Aaron Rodgers walked off Lambeau Field in the regular season finale in what appeared to be a 'goodbye walk'. He looked around and appeared to take in the sights and sounds of his home stadium, where he has played his entire NFL career.

The quarterback then announced weeks later that he was going to consider all of his options before speaking with the Packers about the future. But from the tone of general manager Brian Gutekunst last week, Green Bay may be the ones in the driver's seat when it comes to the decision on their quarterback's future. The Packers appear ready to move on from the quarterback and the constant revolving door of uncertainty regarding his future.

The New York Jets are in search of a veteran quarterback and the Packers quarterback is high on their list. With Derek Carr signing with the New Orleans Saints on Monday morning, the Jets will likely push even harder for a trade.

The cost of trading for him will be high. Besides the return on the trade, the Jets would also be getting a $15.8 million hit to the salary cap. This could be just the beginning of an interesting week in the NFL.
