Odell Beckham Jr. comes to Jake Paul's defense after loss to Tommy Fury

Jake Paul might have lost to Tommy Fury, but at least he has one star player in his corner. NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. came to his defense after the loss as he congratulated Paul for a good fight.

While OBJ did not explicitly point it out, the fight was not a mauling that was expected of a newbie boxer like Paul. He lost by split decision after eight rounds. Tommy Fury, the half-brother of champion boxer Tyson Fury, handed the YouTuber-turned-boxer the first loss of his professional career after six games. Beckham, though, gave Paul credit for his performance, tweeting:

"Give Jake Paul his credit! Much luv Brodie"

Odell Beckham Jr. was not done praising Jake Paul, as he had a go at people who wanted to diminish Jake Paul, who 'worked hard to pick up a skill'.

One commenter had said that following his defeat to Tommy Fury, the boxer would call time on his career and return to YouTube. While the wide receiver did not dispute that, he lauded Paul for lasting the distance, tweeting:

"Nah for sure! Bur respect no? Man’s worked hard to pick up a skill . Went the distance, fought hard? U disagree"

Meanwhile, this offseason could mark a challenge for Odell Beckham. He was a Super Bowl-winning wide receiver a year back with the Los Angeles Rams. An injury in that game sidelined him for the better part of last season, and no team picked him up towards the end of the season or in the playoffs either.

Beckham is still without a team and needs to find one quickly. There was talk last year of him joining the Buffalo Bills. With Stefon Diggs looking increasingly unsettled there, that possibility might yet arise. However, with OBJ having been out of the league for more than a year, the longer his absence from the NFL continues, the tougher it will be for him to return to first-team action.

However, given his strong support of Jake Paul, who had earlier signed a promotional contract with the Cleveland Browns, a return to his former team could be on the cards for Odell Beckham.

He will get to play with Deshaun Watson, given that Baker Mayfield has left the franchise. Nothing is final at the moment, but wherever Beckham goes, he would be fortunate to have the kind of support he gave Paul after his loss to Tommy Fury.
