What did Jalen Carter do? Arrest warrant issued for Georgia DL

Jalen Carter, a potential number one overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, is in trouble. The future top selection has an arrest warrant issued for him now, just a couple of months ahead of the draft.

According to reports, Carter was present at a fatal car crash and misled the police about it.

Mike Florio said:

"Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter, one of the top prospects in the 2023 NFL draft, was present at the scene of a teammate’s fatal car crash on January 15, drove away, and misled police about it afterward, according to a new report (via ProFootballTalk)."

This was the crash that took the life of Chandler LeCroy, a team staffer, and Carter's national champion teammate Devin Willock.

His initial response was that he was nearly a mile away when the fatal crash happened. After that, he said he was behind another vehicle and could see its taillights. Carter's final story was that he was alongside the car when it crashed.

Police initially questioned the Georgia defensive lineman about whether or not he was racing the other vehicle. He is currently denying that, but the arrest warrant has been issued.

2023 NFL Draft: Jalen Carter's draft projection

This new legal situation may not bring an official arrest or time spent in jail for the lineman. It's unclear what Jalen Carter's role was in the crash even if he did lie about being there.

However, it very likely throws his NFL future into doubt. He's talented enough that it won't cause him to go undrafted, but it could very well tank his stock.

At the very least, it would be a surprise to see the Chicago Bears take him with the first overall pick. What was once a surefire top five or 10 pick (depending on what the Bears did with their pick) now has doubt cast over him.

If he's arrested or found to have had something to do with the crash, then things could get a lot worse for him. He could end up in jail and never play a down in the NFL depending on what happens next.
