Most agree that the Super Bowl is one of the rare moments for the entire country to get together and share in an experience. People from all economic and racial backgrounds will be tuning in to find out who wins the biggest game in American sports. As such, the NFL is once again taking steps to include multiple national anthems in the big game.

The "Star-Spangled Banner" will be sung by Chris Stapleton. Rihanna will be singing a list of songs at halftime. But who is singing the black national anthem?

Singer Sheryl Lee Ralph will be singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Ralph has built a singing career since the 1970s and some would argue is staring down one of the biggest performances of her career. Roughly 100 million people watched the 2022 Rams-Bengals Super Bowl and 114 million watched in 2015, according to Statista.

Who will win the Lombardi Trophy?

As such, one could estimate that roughly a third of the country will be seeing the singer's performance. According to Sporting News, the 66-year-old singer also spent time on the big screen, starring in "A Piece of the Action." She's also appeared on the small screen as well, with guest appearances on "Good Times," "The Jeffersons," and "Wonder Woman."

The showdown between Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts will be the first Super Bowl in which both starting quarterbacks are African-American. The milestone arrives about 35 years after Doug Williams became the first Black quarterback to both play in a Super Bowl and win one.

The showdown occurred in 1987 when he faced John Elway and the Denver Broncos. After falling behind 10-0, the Broncos imploded and Williams' Washington Redskins blew past the team. At halftime, it was 35-10 and with the final nail in the coffin, the score wrapped at 42-10.

Now, regardless of who wins, another African-American quarterback will be crowned champion later today. It will not be the first time since 1987 that a Black quarterback has hoisted the Lombardi Trophy and it will not be the last.

Will Patrick Mahomes win his second Super Bowl or will Jalen Hurts match the young quarterback's ring collection?
