Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Gardner Minshew's Fantasy outlook

Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Gardner Minshew is better than several starting quarterbacks in the current NFL landscape. Minshew is playing in his fourth season in the NFL and has already spent time as a QB1 in an NFL franchise. Unlike several second-string quarterbacks around the league, Minshew is not a failed starter or a washed star.

Rather, Gardner Minshew was as solid as they come for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he thrived as a starter there. The only reason he's not slinging passes in Jacksonville is because the Jaguars could not resist the urge to select Trevor Lawrence as the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Following Minshew's trade from the Jaguars, he assumed a role behind Jalen Hurts as the number two Eagles' quarterback. Minshew was so good that some fans initially wanted him to take over Hurts' spot, rather than serve as his backup. However, the Eagles' coaching staff had other ideas, and their 2022 season record justifies their point.

Minshew has not started a single game for the Eagles throughout the 2022 NFL season, but that looks like it is about to change. The reason is that the Eagles' starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is recovering from an injury and will likely be rested for their Week 16 game.

Gardner Minshew's Fantasy outlook

Gardner Minshew will likely be starting at center in place of Hurts in the Eagles' upcoming game against divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. That game will be one for the books, as the Eagles can make a statement against their probable Divisional Championship opponents. Minshew is not oblivious or a stranger to high-profile matchups, as he partook in a handful while being QB1 for the Jaguars.

Eagles starting quarterback and MVP favorite Jalen Hurts reportedly sustained a sprained shoulder on Sunday against the Bears. This puts his status in doubt to play on Saturday. Thus, Minshew would have some serious streaming appeal in 2-QB and Superflex leagues, especially for those who have Jalen Hurts in their lineups.

How is Gardner Minshew performing this season?

Gardner Minshew has yet to play in any significant games in the 2022 NFL season, likely due to his status as a second-string quarterback. He is playing in the last year of his rookie contract, so this might not be ideal for the former Washington State University shot caller. However, he can start in the Eagles' Week 16 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. You can expect the year-four Pro to give a solid account of himself.

This season has seen Minshew put up a stat line of 34 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It should be noted that all three of his appearances this season have been off the bench.
