In the 2017 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Mahomes with the 10th choice. He only participated in one game during his first season, but by 2018, he had ascended to the position of the team's top signal caller. Over the course of the season, he completed 383 passes for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
Mahomes became the third quarterback to reach 50 touchdowns in a season, behind Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.
In 2019, Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. In 2020, the Chiefs returned to the Super Bowl, but they were crushed 31-9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
