Cody Garbrandt is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the flyweight and bantamweight divisions of the UFC. He previously held the title of UFC Bantamweight Champion.

Cody Garbrandt was born and raised by his mother in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He and his older brother Zach began boxing at a young age with their uncle, but their mother was concerned about the sport's potential damage to their health and encouraged them to focus on wrestling instead. Garbrandt became a state wrestling champion in his freshman year of high school and also played football. After high school, he pursued amateur boxing and amassed a 32-0 record. Despite receiving offers from NCAA Division I schools for wrestling, Garbrandt dropped out of college to pursue boxing. He later sold drugs, worked as a bouncer, and trained as a coal miner before committing to his amateur MMA career.
Cody Garbrandt began his MMA career as an amateur in 2009, with a record of 6-2, before making his professional debut in 2012. He has a professional record of 12-5, with ten of his opponents being finished via strikes. In 2014, after moving from Ohio to California to train at Team Alpha Male, he signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) following a first-round finish of Charles Sanford.
Garbrandt made his UFC debut on January 3, 2015, at UFC 182, against Marcus Brimage, whom he defeated via TKO in the third round. He then fought and defeated Henry Briones by unanimous decision on July 11, 2015, at UFC 189. Garbrandt's fight against John Lineker on February 21, 2016, was canceled due to Lineker contracting Dengue Fever. Instead, he fought Augusto Mendes and won by TKO in the first round. Garbrandt then fought Thomas Almeida on May 29, 2016, winning via knockout in the first round, earning a Performance of the Night bonus. Garbrandt fought and defeated Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 202, via TKO in the first round.
Garbrandt fought and won against Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 on December 30, 2016, becoming the UFC Bantamweight champion. He was then scheduled to fight T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 213 in July 2017 but had to withdraw due to a back injury. They eventually fought at UFC 217 on November 4, 2017, with Dillashaw winning by technical knockout, taking the title from Garbrandt. Garbrandt and Dillashaw fought again at UFC 227 on August 4, 2018, with Garbrandt losing by knockout in the first round.
Cody Garbrandt returned to the octagon on March 2, 2019, in a match against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 235, where he was knocked out in the first round. He was then scheduled to face Raphael Assunção on March 28, 2020, but withdrew from the fight due to kidney problems. They eventually fought each other on June 6, 2020, at UFC 250, with Garbrandt winning via a second-round knockout.

Garbrandt returned to bantamweight and faced Rob Font on May 22, 2021, in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Garbrandt, where he lost via unanimous decision.

Garbrandt's fight against Rani Yahya was initially scheduled for July 9, 2022, but Yahya had to pull out due to a neck injury. The fight was rescheduled for October 1, 2022, but Yahya withdrew again for unknown reasons. During this time, Garbrandt also suffered a training injury, which caused him to pull out of the card. Garbrandt was then scheduled to face Julio Arce on March 4, 2023, but Arce had to withdraw due to a knee injury. Trevin Jones replaced Arce as Garbrandt's opponent for UFC 285. He won the fight via unanimous decision.
