Sharjeel Khan: A Brief Biography

Sharjeel Khan Biography


Sharjeel Khan is a left-handed batsman from Pakistan. He is an aggressive opening batsman born in Hyderabad, Pakistan. Born on 14 August 1989, Sharjeel is also a part-time slow leg break bowler.


Background


Sharjeel Khan made his debut in first-class cricket in 2009 and scored just one run in his first innings.


During that season, he ended up with just 8 runs. However, he made a name for himself with T20 blitzes in Pakistan's domestic competition by scoring two T20 centuries.


International Debut


Seeing his hitting abilities Sharjeel was called up for Pakistan’s ODI team during Sri Lanka's tour in the UAE in 2013. In his second match, he scored a promising 34 runs and scored quickfire 50 runs in just 25 balls in his third match.


In September 2016, Sharjeel earned his first test match against New Zealand after impressing in the limited overs against England and West Indies.


Rise to Glory


Sharjeel’s first international hundred was against Ireland in 2016. He scored 152 runs. His fifty came in just 34 deliveries and century in 61 deliveries with a strike rate of 176.74.


With this century, Sharjeel became the third-highest run scorer of Pakistan in an ODI innings, behind Saeed Anwar and Imran Nazir. His 150 also stands as the third-fastest of all time after AB de Villiers and Shane Watson.


Club Career


Sharjeel played Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2016 from Islamabad United's squad. He scored 117 from 62 in a game against Peshawar Zalmi which is known to be best bowling line up in PSL.


He scoring 300 runs in the tournament at an excellent strike-rate of 149.25 and finished the tournament as the third-leading run scorer only behind Umar Akmal and Ravi Bopara.


Controversy


In the 2017 edition of Pakistan Super League, Sharjeel Khan, along with teammate Khalid Latif was formally charged by the Pakistan Cricket Board for violating the anti-corruption code.


Khan was provisionally suspended under the Anti-Corruption Code of the PCB. On 30 August 2017, Sharjeel Khan was banned for 5 years from all forms of cricket after being found guilty in violation of the PCB's anti-corruption code.
