Appearance of Aggron

Aggron is a massive Pokemon at 6 feet and 11 inches, or 2.1 meters, tall. It is a bipedal Pokemon that stands on two armored legs. Aggron’s head has three spikes pointed outwards and its jawline is jagged. It has blue sclera and a black pupil.

Behavior of Aggron

In the Pokemon canon, Aggron is known to claim an entire mountain for itself and it protects this territory fiercely. Aggron is also a caretaker of its lands and will repair its environment when it is damaged. According to Pokemon lore, it does not seem like Aggron gains any new armor or manages to repair itself well. Any damage that an Aggron takes remains and it wears them like proud battle scars.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Aggron’s biggest selling point is its bulky physical defense base stat. However, it is 4x weak to fighting and ground-type moves, and even has a water weakness of 2x. While 180 base physical defense is quite high, taking 4x damage from a fighting type with STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) with high physical attack evens the playing field. Unfortunately for Aggron, it does not have impressive health or special defense pool to match its insane physical defense. The best environment for Aggron is where it can take advantage of going second.

Mega Aggron

Like most mega evolutions, Mega Aggron gets to benefit from a 100 stat boost to its base stat totals. Fortunately for Mega Aggron they are almost all allocated into its best stats. This makes running Mega Aggron much easier considering it can fit a role and play that role well. It also gains a new ability of Filter, which makes it take 3/4 damage from super-effective moves. Mega Aggron’s typing also changes from dual-type steel/rock to monotype steel. In terms of design, it becomes much bulkier, the armor on its body becomes more plated, and its already large frame becomes larger.

Shiny Aggron

It is a bit difficult to tell Shiny Aggron apart from regular Aggron. Shiny Aggron’s color palette changes to a tarnished copper color. Its eyes become dark red, and the white accents become more bronze-colored. This is likely to imply that Shiny Aggron’s armor has begun to rust. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Aggron gains a starry animation upon entering battle. Not much changes about its design, but because Aggron is a popular Pokemon, it is very desirable to obtain a Shiny Aggron.

Best Moveset

If Mega Aggron is available to you in your respective competitive bracket, there is not much reason not to run its mega evolution. This does mean that its held item is reserved for Aggronite, but its an easy sacrifice to make for the increase to its base stats. For moves consider Stealth Rock, Roar/Toxic/Thunder Wave, Heavy Slam, and Earthquake. Stealth Rock can help you with problematic types, Roar synergizes with Stealth Rock, Toxic can give you inevitability, and Thunder Wave grants you some status move angles, Heavy Slam benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and serves as Mega Aggron’s primary source of damage, and Earthquake can help you with problematic matchups.

How to Catch Aggron in Pokemon Go

The easiest way to obtain an Aggron in Pokemon Go is to locate an Aron and get enough candies to eventually evolve it into Aggron. It will take 25 Aron candies to evolve it into Lairon and another 100 to evolve it into Aggron. To find Arons near you, consider looking in urban environments. You can also find them wherever there are roads, highways, or other asphalt-like areas. Aggron also appeared as a 4-star raid boss in the past, so keep an eye on Pokemon Gyms near you to see if you can skip all the candy farming. While it is not impossible to find Aggron in the wild, it is likely you catch enough Arons for 125 candies before you find an Aggron in the wild.

FAQs

Q. Is Aggron a Good Pokemon?

Aggron is a niche Pokemon, meaning that it fills a role and fills it well. It is not particularly a one-size-fits-all Pokemon in that it is particularly weak when it is up against certain types of Pokemon. However, if you need a bulky physical defensive Pokemon, there are few Pokemon that do the job as well as Aggron does.

Q. Who is better, Aggron or Tyranitar?

Tyranitar is certainly more powerful in competitive formats. Since Tyranitar’s introduction in generation two, it has been shaping the meta by forcing teams to have an answer to Tyranitar. Aggron has made less of an impact throughout the years, but it still has its place in its respective competitive brackets. In casual play, it is still likely Tyranitar, but it is not nearly as clear.

Q. Is Aggron Legendary?

Aggron is neither legendary nor pseudo-legendary. It is simply a powerful Pokemon that maintains its image as a powerful Pokemon as the trainers you encountered in the games were powerful. Aggron does not fit the legendary classification as it does evolve, it does not meet the breeding restrictions, and its catch rate is much higher.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this iron armored Pokemon. Aggron may not have made the biggest impact in competitive battling, but its design and role as a dedicated physical wall remain in the minds of many trainers. When you think of bulky Pokemon, Aggron is likely the first to come to mind. Whether you are a fan of Aggron’s design or its place in the Pokemon universe, Aggron has solidified its position as a beloved Pokemon throughout the franchise’s history.
