Geodude is a dual-type Ground/Rock-type Pokemon from Generation 1. Geodude spends most of its time in rocky areas and is sometimes mistaken for a rock. It has been stepped on many times and will usually swing its arms out in anger when this happens to it. Geodude is often known as the Rock Pokemon. The word Geodude may be a combination of Geo, meaning rock, and dude, slang for male, or a version of the word geode.

Appearance of Geodude

Geodude is shaped like a rock with arms, which is why it often is mistaken for a rock. As a result, Rhyperior sometimes mistakes this Pokémon for actual boulders and fire them through their hands. It has rocky eyebrows, brown eyes, and a largemouth. Its arms are muscular with human-like hands. These arms are great for climbing up paths and mountains. The longer a Geodude lives, the more worn out its body becomes. Eventually, it becomes smooth and round. This makes it even more mistakable for a rock. The Geodude’s hand typically has five fingers.

Behavior of Geodude

Geodude has a bit of a hot temper, especially when stepped on. Sometimes it can be confused with a rock, which leads to getting stepped on to which Geodude responds by angrily swinging his arms at whoever the perpetrator is. When Geodude goes to sleep, it buries itself halfway in the ground, reinforcing the confusion when people come across it. However, this time, Geodude is in such a deep sleep that it won’t notice if it gets stepped on. When sleeping, Geodude stops caring about people mistaking it for a rock.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Geodude is strong against Electric, Poison, Normal, Flying, Fire, and Rock types. Geodude receives no damage from Electric types. Geodude receives a quarter the damage from Poison-types and half from the rest. It is also strong attacking against Steel-type Pokemon. Geodude is weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel, and Ice types. Water and Grass types deal four times the damage to Geodude and the others do twice the damage.

Alolan Geodude

The Alolan Geodude follows the same evolutionary path that its original counterpart does. Alolan Geodude evolves into Alolan Graveler at level 25 and then is evolved to Alolan Golem when it is traded. The Alolan Geodude is an Electric/Rock dual type. The Alolan Geodude has what resembles hairs on the top of his head, whereas the original is hairless. The Alolan Geodude is made from a magnetic rock with a silver appearance. There are some places on Alolan Geodude's body that are more magnetic and attract iron sand, creating its thick eyebrows and the hair on its head. Alolan Geodude seems to have dark structures made of what are called piezoelectric crystals, or magnetite, a kind of iron ore known for its black appearance and magnetic properties.

Shiny Geodude

The Shiny Geodude is similar to the original Geodude. The Shiny Geodude has the same form and behavior, except that it is a different color. The Shiny Geodude is completely a yellow and tan type color, whereas the original is fully grey. A Shiny Alolan Geodude can be found in Pokemon Go.

How to catch Geodude in Pokemon Go?

Geodude can be found in quarries, parking and highways, and large commercial buildings. Parking lots, parking decks, and other buildings have been shown to be the best place to find Geodude. Geodude can also be hatched from a 2km egg, making it one of the easier Pokemon to hatch. Geodude evolves to Graveler at 50 candies and to Golem when traded or at 100 candies.

Trivia

  1. In the Japanese game Pokémon Blue, Geodude weighs 2.0 kg as opposed to 20.0 kg (as it does everywhere else). This has no real significance, as no game mechanics utilize weight in the handheld Generation I games.
  2. Alolan Geodude has the lowest base Special Attack and Special defense of any Electric type Pokemon.
  3. Alolan Geodude, along with the Alolan Graveler and Alolan Golem, are the only Pokemon with the dual Electric/Rock types.
  4. Alolan Geodude is the only three-line evolutionary path that has three Alolan evolutions. The Alolan Geodude can evolve all the way to an Alolan Golem.

FAQs

Q. What is Geodude good against?

Geodude should be a go-to Pokemon for Electric-type Pokemon, but can also be good against Poison, Flying, Fire, Rock, and Normal-type Pokemon.

Q. Who can beat Geodude?

The five strongest Pokemon to beat Geodude are Kingler, Kyogre, Breloom, Sceptile and Roserade.

Q. Why does my Geodude have hair?

The answer is that it’s really not hair. The Alolan Geodude appears to have hair because of its magnetic skin attracting magnetite to certain spots on its head. These spots end up giving the appearance of hair, despite it being a hairless rock.

Q. Can Geodude fly?

No. It only appears that they are off the ground. In the TV show, Geodude just jumps around a lot. Pokedex entries have never given any indication they can fly. Rock and Ground types typically do not fly.

Conclusion

Geodude is a strong Pokemon, both in attacking and defending. It has a bit of a temper, but that can be useful in battle. Alolan Geodude is pretty great and pretty rare, so getting one is quite the accomplishment. Its rare evolutionary path and dual type are worth the effort to find one.
