Glalie Pokémon

Last Modified Aug 03, 2021 05:48 GMT

Glalie is an ice-type Pokemon that was introduced in Generation III and evolves from Snorunt from level 42 onwards. It is one of two possible forms that Snorunt can evolve into, the other being the ice and ghost-type Pokemon, introduced a generation later in Generation IV, Froslass. While Glalie evolves from Snorunt by leveling up, its counterpart evolves solely from a female Snorunt when it is exposed to a Dawn Stone. Glalie is one of the 46 Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution when it is exposed to Glalitite.

Appearance

Glalie is a Pokemon consisting of a spherical black rock core covered by ice. This icy covering has several holes and spaces which reveal the black rock all over its body and three of those holes reveal two blue eyes and a mouth with flat and rectangular teeth. A diamond-shaped hole is placed above its eyes with two large, black, conical horns on either side of Glalie's head.

Behavior

Glalie is capable of controlling ice by freezing moisture in the air into any desired shape which is partly due to the fact that Glalie’s ice based body is actually made up of not particularly hard rock. Since its rock underlayer is not very hard, it uses its ability to control ice in order to drape itself in an ice armor and freeze its prey. Glalie consumes its prey whole and often targets other ice-type Pokemon as its ideal prey, specifically Pokemon like Vanillite. It is usually found in cold and snowy weather, though it tends to live in caves when the weather outside does not meet these conditions.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Glalie has uniform stats all around with none of its stats being any higher than the others. As an ice-type, Glalie is weak to fighting, rock, steel and fire-types, is resistant to ice-types and immune to no types.

Shiny Glalie

Shiny Glalie is a version of Glalie which has a more mint tint to its body with reddish orange eyes. Shiny Glalie is a solely aesthetic change and it can be caught by continuously breeding Glalie, Froslass, or Snorunt until you hatch a Shiny Snorunt which can then be evolved into Glalie. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Glalie gains a starry animation upon entering battle.

Mega Glalie

Mega Glalie is the Mega Evolved version of Glalie which can be used in battle when it is exposed to Glalitite. In this form, Glalie’s attack, special attack and speed are all increased by a total of 100 base stat points. Mega Glalie’s mouth extends to the length of its face because of a dislocated jaw that came about due to the overwhelming energy created by the Mega Evolution. Glalie’s lower jaw is all black except for two light-blue, icy spikes pointing downwards and the inside of its mouth, which is a shade of navy blue. Mega Glalie's eyes are now red instead of black, the horns on top of its head have been partially turned into ice. A third horn is added onto Mega Glalie’s forehead and it is said to have enough power to spill endless blizzards from its broken mouth, though its inability to consume its prey makes it irritated.

Best moveset

Due to its uniform stats, basically any strategy can be used for Glalie. First, the move Substitute protects Glalie, and works well with the move Disable, which disables the opponent's last move. Ice Beam is the main STAB (same-type attack bonus) attack move for Glalie and can deal solid damage while Shadow Ball is used for type coverage.

How to catch Glalie in Pokemon Go?

As an ice-type, Glalie is slightly more likely to be found near any body of water or during snowy weather. It can be found by catching its pre-evolution, Snorunt, and then evolving it into Glalie by feeding it 100 Snorunt candies.

Trivia

  1. Glalie shares all of its base stats with the sea guardian, Phione.
  2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Snorunt trophy makes the incorrect claim that only male Snorunt evolve into Glalie.
  3. Glalie may be a combination of glacier (a huge mass of ice that slowly moves over land) and goalie (in ice hockey, the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net)
  4. Glalie mostly resembles human features with specifically implying a cold, distant person or facial expression
  5. Glalie’s ice covering resembles an ice hockey mask or a hailstone
  6. Glalie’s horns and teeth are likely based around a standard oni (a kind of yōkai, demon, ogre, or troll in Japanese folklore) or possibly even onigiri (rice ball)
