Appearance of Scyther

Scyther is a large, green flying insect with two arms that double as weapons, its scythes. The female Scyther will have a larger abdomen than the male. It has narrow eyes and three points on the back of its head. It also has two cream-colored wings coming out of its back, giving it the ability to fly. However, despite having the ability to fly, Scyther usually stays grounded.

Behavior of Scyther

Scyther loves to hunt. It uses its two scythe arms as weapons and slashes its prey. It can hide in the grass very well and uses its speed as an advantage. Its aggressive attacks and speed give it a decided advantage over whatever prey it is hunting. It is referred to as having ninja-like movements. Its arms need to be sharpened, and the battle is often where it does that. Scythers, in the anime, move in swarms. Whenever a leader gets challenged and loses, a new leader is chosen and the former leader is banished into exile from the swarm. Scizor turns into a Bug Steel dual-type Pokemon when it is evolved to.

Behavior of Scyther

Strengths and Weaknesses

Scyther is strong against Ground, Fighting, Grass, and Bug-type Pokemon. Ground types do no damage to it because it is a Flying-type. The bug does half the damage to Scyther and Fighting and Grass do a quarter the damage. Scyther is also strong attacking Poison and Psychic types. Scyther is weak against Rock, Flying, Fire, Electric, and Ice types. Rock types do four times the regular damage to Scyther, and Flying, Fire, and Electric do twice as much.

Shiny Scyther

The Shiny Scyther has a different shade of green on its outer shell and instead of cream-colored parts, they are pink. The Scyther evolves into Scizor, which is red, but the Shiny Scizor is a bright, neon yellow. Shiny Scythers spawn at a rate of 1/450, making this a rare Pokemon. Shiny Scyther doesn’t change anything else, and neither does the Shiny Scizor when compared to the original Scyther.

How to catch Scyther in Pokemon Go?

Scyther can be found and caught in grassy areas such as parks, farmland, and meadows. Grassy areas are where Scyther likes to hunt, so it's a good bet to find it there if anywhere. Scyther can be hatched from 5k eggs, so walking is a good way of gaining a Scyther. Scyther can be evolved to Scizor at 50 candies and with a Metal Coat.

Trivia

  1. In the Red and Blue beta, Scyther’s name was Stryke, so Pokemon was intent on using the letter Y in its name. It was based on its hunting habits, in which it “strikes” its prey.
  2. Scyther’s base stats are 500. Once evolved, Scizor’s base stats are also 500. It is the only Pokemon whose unevolved base stats are equal to the total of its evolved counterpart.
  3. Scyther is considered a parallel to Pinsir. They are both Bug types from Generation 1. They are both 500 base stats in their unevolved form. Both originally had no evolutionary family. They are exclusive to different games from each Pokemon release they are a part of.
  4. Scyther is considered to be based on a praying mantis, both in appearance and behavior. The Pokemon is modeled after many insects, but mainly after the mantis and its arms.

FAQs

Q. Is Scyther rare in Pokemon Go?

Yes, Scyther is one of the more rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go. If scyther's challenges need to be completed, players should prioritize going to areas it might spawn, and watch them from 5k eggs. It needs 50 candies to evolve, so using Pinap Berries, or even a Razz Berry to ensure its capture is a good idea.

Q. When should I evolve Scyther?

Scyther does not have a specific level needed to evolve, nor does it need any trades or any particular time of day to evolve. Simply using a Metal Coat is enough to evolve it, but there are benefits to doing it at certain times. Scyther takes less to level up than Scizor because it is an unevolved Pokemon. At whatever level you feel comfortable with is fine to evolve Scyther, just know it’ll get harder to evolve once it is a Scizor.

Q. What can beat Scizor?

The five strongest Pokemon to defeat Scizor are: Reshiram, Chandelure, Darmanitan, Volcarona and Blaziken.

Q. Does Scizor use its wings to fly?

Scizor’s body is made of a steel-like material, making it unfazed by normal attacks. This Pokemon typically uses its wing for body temperature regulation rather than flying.

Conclusion

Scyther is a sly, cunning Pokemon. It hunts down its prey with careful calculations before viciously attacking it. Scythers are fairly rare, but they are also very strong, making them a good Pokemon to search for. Scizor becomes a Steel, Bug dual type Pokemon after evolution.
