Top 10 oldest players who scored a century in IPL

With a 58-ball knock of 122 runs against Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League, Virender Sehwag has become the fifth oldest player in the tournament’s seven-year long history to score a century.Here are ten of the oldest batsmen to score a century in the Indian Premier League:

#10 Chris Gayle

At the age of 31 years 7 months 15 days, West Indies’ opener Chris Gayle is the tenth oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

This was his fourth century in the tournament as he scored 175* off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Sun Risers Hyderabad in Bangalore on 23 Apr 2013.

He completed his innings with 13 fours and 17 sixes.

Owning to his brilliant knock, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 130 runs.

#9 Virender Sehwag

Having struck a hundred at the age of 32 years 6 months 15 days, Indian opener Virender Sehwag takes up the ninth spot in this list.

This was his first century in the tournament as he scored 119 off 56 balls for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad on 5 May 2011. He completed his innings with 13 fours and 6 sixes.

Delhi Daredevils won the match by 4 wickets with 6 balls remaining.

    At the age of 32 years 10 months 8 days, Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene is the eight oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

    This was his one and only century in the tournament as he scored 110* off 59 balls for Kings XI Punjab against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on 4 Apr 2010.

    He completed his innings with 14 fours and 3 sixes.

    However, a brilliant innings by Chris Gayle in the same match denied Punjab of a win as Kings XI Punjab won by 8 wickets with 10 balls remaining.

    At the age of 32 years 10 months 15 days, former Australian batsman Andrew Symonds is the seventh oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

    This was his one and only century in the tournament as he scored 117** off 53 balls for Deccan Chargers against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Hyderabad on 24 Apr 2008.

    He completed his innings with 11 fours and 7 sixes.

    Yet it was Rajasthan Royals who won in the nail-biting encounter by 3 wickets and just a ball remaining.

    At the age of 32 years 10 months 23 days, Australian batsman Michael Hussey is the sixth oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

    This was his one and only century in the tournament as he scored 116* off 54 balls for Chennai Super Kings against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on 19 Apr 2008.

    He completed his innings with 8 fours and 9 sixes, helping Chennai Super Kings win the match by 33 runs.

    #5 Virender Sehwag

    At the age of 35 years 7 months 10 days, Indian opener Virender Sehwag is the fifth oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

    This was his second century in the tournament as he scored 122 off 58 balls for Kings XI Punjab against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on 30 May 2014.

    He completed his innings with 12 fours and 8 sixes, and led Punjab to a win by 24 runs.

    #4 Adam Gilchrist

    At the age of 36 years 5 months 13 days, former Australian International Adam Gilchrist stands as fourth in this list.

    This was his first century in the tournament as he scored 109* off 47 balls for Deccan Chargers against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on 27 April, 2008. He completed his innings with 9 fours and 10 sixes.

    Deccan Chargers won the match by 10 wickets with 48 balls remaining.

    #3 Sachin Tendulkar

    At the age of 37 years 11 months 22 days, retired Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is the third oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

    This was his one and only century in the tournament as he scored 100* off 66 balls for the Mumbai Indians against Kochi Tuskers Kerala on 15 Apr 2011.

    He completed his innings with 12 fours and 3 sixes.

    However, his knock didn’t bore any fruit as it was Kochi who eventually won the match by 8 wickets and an over remaining.

    #2 Sanath Jayasuriya

    At the age of 38 years 10 months 14 days, former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya is the second oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League.

    This was his one and only century in the tournament as he scored 114* off 48 balls for the Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings on 14 May, 2008.

    He completed his innings with 9 fours and 11 sixes.

    His knock helped Mumbai Indians emerge victorious by 9 wickets with 37 balls in their hand.

    At the age of 39 years 6 months 3 days, former Australian International Adam Gilchrist tops our list with him being the oldest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League as he appears a second time on our list.

    This was his second century in the tournament as he scored 106 off 55 balls for the Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers’ Bangalore at Dharamsala on 17 May, 2011.

    He completed his innings with 8 fours and 9 sixes, and helped Kings XI Punjab secure a win by 111 runs.
