The Falcons and Grady Jarrett agreed to a four-year deal before Monday's franchise tag deadline, ensuring a key piece of Atlanta's defensive front remains in place going forward.

Atlanta confirmed they had agreed to terms with the defensive tackle, with ESPN reporting the deal will pay Jarrett up to $68million. He is guaranteed $42.5m, according to NFL Media.

Jarrett had a franchise tag worth $15.2m placed on him in March to prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Despite initial suggestions the Falcons would keep the franchise tag on Jarrett, reports soon emerged that there were hopes of striking a long-term agreement before the deadline to sign him to a longer deal.

And they now have him tied down until 2023, with Jarrett rewarded for a 2018 season that marked the best of his career.

The Atlanta-area native had 52 tackles, six sacks, 16 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles and eight tackles for a loss last season.
