The Jacksonville Jaguars have released Leonard Fournette ahead of the new NFL season.
The running back had looked set to leave earlier this year after the Jaguars chose not to pick up his fifth-year option before shopping him around before the draft.
However, having failed to find a willing trade partner, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said he expected Fournette to remain in Jacksonville for the forthcoming campaign.
But the Jaguars confirmed via Twitter on Monday that the 25-year-old had been waived.

Fournette, the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, rushed for 1,152 yards in 2019 – statistically his best season as a pro – and added another 522 yards on 76 receptions, though he only had three touchdowns.
His release comes a day after the Jaguars traded pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings.Published 31 Aug 2020, 19:04 IST
