Patrick Mahomes says the mindset shown for Darrel Williams' late touchdown in the Kansas City Chiefs' Divisional Round win over the Indianapolis Colts is one they will need if they are to become Super Bowl champions.

The Chiefs ran out 31-13 victors to secure home advantage in next week's AFC Championship Game, with Williams' late score ending any hope of a comeback for the Colts.

Mahomes himself helped shove his team-mate into the endzone to typify the desire for victory and the quarterback believes such a mentality is a must this deep into the playoffs.

"It was a great win, I think the defence stepped up in a big way and played great all game long," he said.

"The offense started fast, we had a dry spell but finished it off in the end.

"It was a great team win, we have the opportunity to play here again next, we're excited for that opportunity.

"My favourite thing was finishing the game at the end, we've been in those situations this year and I feel like we haven't executed to our standard.

"For us to go out there and finish that game with those big runs - especially that last one - shows the attitude and effort needed to win football games."

Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri epitomised a difficult evening for Indianapolis, missing the shortest field goal of his career and an extra point.

The 46-year-old veteran, who became the NFL's all-time leading scorer this season, must now decide if he wants to carry on into a 24th campaign.

"I have a couple little things body-wise that I want to get checked out and make sure we're all good and moving forward," said Vinatieri.

"I haven't made a decision yet to be honest with you. If they want to talk, I'm willing to listen, that's for damn sure."
