Farid Yu Darvishsefat, who is known as Yu Darvish, is a Japanese professional Major League Baseball pitcher for the San Diego Padres. Darvish was born on August 16, 1986, in Habikino, Osaka, Japan.

Darvish was only in second grade when he started playing baseball. He led his team to the national tournament quarterfinals and secured a third-place finish in the international tournament with the Habikino Boys. Despite being scouted by over 50 high schools in junior high, he opted to attend Tohoku High School in Northern Sendai, which is known for its baseball excellence and notable alumni like Kazuhiro Sasaki and Takashi Saito.

Darvish made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers in 2012 and has since played for other MLB teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs. He is currently representing the San Diego Padres, whom he joined in 2021. The pitcher has also racked up quite a lot of achievements to his name, Darvish is a 5 time All-Star and made the All-MLB First Team in 2020. His other honors, include titles of NL Wins Leader (2020) and the AL strikeout leader (2013).

Yu Darvish’s father is Farsad Darvishsefat. His father is of Iranian descent as he was born and raised in Iran. Farsad went to the US to get higher education in 1977. Farsad Darvishsefat finished his high school education in Berkshire, Massachusetts, and enrolled at Eckerd College, where he participated in soccer. He also raced competitively in motocross during his high school days.

In an ESPN interview, Farsad mentioned encountering mistreatment because of his ethnicity which resulted in him spending most of his time on the bench. Farsad afterwards enrolled at Eastern Washington University and became a supporter of the Seahawks. He met Darvish’s mother, Ikuyo, while in college at Eckerd College. The two got married and moved to Japan in 1982.

Darvish’s mother met his father while attending Eckerd College. The couple have three sons who were raised in Japan. The pitcher, Yu Darvish is the eldest son with Sho Darvish is the middle child and Kenta Darvish who is the youngest son.

Darvish's mother seems to avidly support his baseball career which is evident by when Ikuyo visited the United States to witness her son's participation in the All-Star game in 2017. On her Facebook page, she often shares posts of her sons and even of his philanthropic efforts as well.
