He was raised without a father by his mother, Brenda Rose. For a very early age, he was taught to fight for himself and his family. Leaving for a better life was one of the major reasons for Rose to choose basketball over everything. It was an escape for him to a better living.

It was one of the best decisions of his life as he went on and played in the NBA.
