Denver Nuggets' Michael Porter Jr. looks like an important piece for the team's future, whether it is because he can turn into an All-Star or because he could facilitate a trade for a big name to address a need on the Denver Nuggets roster.

Of course, keeping Porter Jr., who took a big leap in his growth in the 2020-21 NBA season (averaging 19 points and seven rebounds per game) would be good for the Denver Nuggets' future. He can definitely turn into a great scorer in the league and is already a brilliant long-range shooter (43.9% from 3P in his career).

The only issue with MPJ's long-term career is in the doubts produced by his back injuries (he missed his entire rookie year). That situation could make him ink a contract extension as soon as possible, though the Denver Nuggets could be hesitant to offer a big deal (five-year, $168 deal).

With a year left on his rookie contract, this will be a big summer for Michael Porter Jr. and the Denver Nuggets.

Porter Jr. was drafted with the 14th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2018 NBA Draft, and he made his debut in the 2019-20 NBA season. Last year, he showed bursts of his talent during the regular season, before becoming a good scorer for the team in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

He was a finalist for the Most Improved Player award, and the Denver Nuggets' young player could continue to evolve as a scorer in the NBA as his career progresses. He averaged 19 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 three-pointers made per game (6.3 attempts per game).

In 61 appearances for the Denver Nuggets in the regular season, MPJ made 54.2% of his field goals, 44.5% of his three-pointers and 79.1% of his free throws.
