Does Pascal Siakam's stats for the 2022-2023 NBA season make him an MVP candidate? All you need to know

Philadelphia 76ers v Toronto Raptors
Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam

Through 24 games played in 2022-2023, Pascal Siakam is having his best season thus far. The two-time All-NBA selection is averaging a 26.6 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and 6.8 assists per game, all career-highs. He is also averaging 1.0 steals per game and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 48.7% from the field, 33.7% from three-point range, and 77.4% from the free-throw line. Siakam scored a career-high 52 points at Madison Square Garden last week.

Pascal Siakam, who is now in his seventh season, is currently 15th in the NBA in scoring, tied for 26th in rebounding, and tied for 10th in assists. While his breakout performance will likely earn him his second trip to the All-Star Game, the Toronto Raptors are just 15-19.

Despite his strong play, the 2018-2019 Most Improved Player of the Year is unlikely to garner serious MVP consideration. Not only has his team struggled, but there are simply far too many players that are performing at an MVP level in the first half of the 2022-2023 season. Furthermore, Siakam has missed 10 of the Raptors 34 games thus far.

If the Toronto Raptors are able to turn things down and make a postseason run in the second half of the season and Pacsal Siakam is able to stay healthy, it is possible that he will garner lower ballot votes. The 2018-2019 NBA champion was able to receive MVP votes in the 2019-2020 season despite performing at a lower level than his current level of play.
