LeBron James inching closer to ridiculous NBA record with game against LA Clippers looming

LA Lakers superstar LeBron James scored a season-high 48 points against the Houston Rockets on Monday night.

The game marked a milestone night for James as it was the 100th 40-point game of his career, including the playoffs. It also marked James’ first-ever 40-point performance against Houston. He is on the brink of accomplishing an impressive feat when the Lakers face off against the LA Clippers next Tuesday.

James has now recorded a 40-point game against 29 of the 30 teams in the NBA. The Clippers are the only team he has yet to score 40 against as James’ career-high against the franchise is 39 points. This came back on Nov. 17, 2017, when James was still a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

If James can pull off another 40-point performance on Tuesday, he has a chance to make history.

LeBron James recently scored his 38,000th career point versus the Philadelphia 76ers, becoming the second player ever to do so. James is also on track to pass Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 career points) to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in the near future.

He has shown no signs of slowing down this season. Since turning 38 on Dec. 30, 2022, James is averaging 37.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game on 55.4% shooting.

Overall, James is averaging 29.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game on 51.1% shooting this season. So it appears that he will continue to defy the odds and keep putting up elite scoring numbers for the foreseeable future.

Following LeBron James’ season-best performance versus the Houston Rockets, Lakers coach Darvin Ham raved about James’ longevity.

Ham noted that James has been playing at a historic level. He also touched on how much of a joy it has been for him to be able to watch James dominate firsthand.

"I think it's historic on a lot of different levels," Ham said.
“For him to be at this point in his career and still able to produce at the level in which he's producing, I think all of us being able to witness it, be a part of it, it shows his competitive spirit, his no-quit mentality. ... Whenever he's out there, he's just been competing. It's amazing to see."

Despite picking up a win over Houston, the LA Lakers are still just 20-24 and 13th in the Western Conference. However, at the very least, LeBron James is giving Lakers fans a reason to tune in every night as he continues to make history.
