Will the Lakers send Lonzo Ball to Washington?

What's the story?

Due to an impending rebuild, the Washington Wizards may explore trading 2-time All-Star Bradley Beal. If Beal was to be made available, the Los Angeles Lakers have been tipped as his most likely destination, and Ben Standig of NBC Sports is reporting that the Wizards would want Lonzo Ball included in any trade package:

If there’s a deal with the Lakers, most sources would want Ball involved regardless of any parent distractions from his attention-seeking father, Lavar. “People just don’t grasp how good he is,” a source said.

In case you didn't know...

Lonzo Ball was selected by the Lakers with the second overall pick of the 2017 draft, although his early NBA career has been disrupted by injuries. The young point guard has made just 99 appearances in his two seasons in Los Angeles, and he was also included in the trade package that the Lakers offered for Anthony Davis earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Bradley Beal is still only 25, although he is already a two-time All-Star, and the 18/19 season was the best of his career. Despite a poor supporting cast, Beal managed to demonstrate his considerable talents, averaging career highs in points (25.6), assists (5.5), and rebounds (5.0).

The heart of the matter

Ball could still transform into an All-Star caliber player, although due to LeBron James' age, the Lakers simply cannot afford to wait.

In comparison, Beal is already an established star, and there is no doubting that he would drastically improve LA's chances of competing for a title next season. Ultimately, the Lakers should look to complete a deal for Beal, while a change of scenery could also kick start Lonzo's career.

What's next?

The Lakers hold the number four pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
