Jonas Valanciunas arrived in Memphis as part of the trade that sent fan favourite Marc Gasol the other way, and he knew that he had big boots to fill.

Valanciunas quickly adhered himself to fans with a sparkling display against the fast-sinking Phoenix Suns.

The Lithuanian dropped a career-high 34 points, leading the Grizzlies to a 120-115 win on the road.

Valanciunas also grabbed 20 rebounds - 11 of which were on the offensive glass - as he dominated the paint and took full advantage of Dragan Bender's liabilities after starting centre DeAndre Ayton had gone off injured.

He shot 16-28 from the field and chipped in with 5 assists and a couple of steals as well to cap off a truly remarkable night.

10 of his points came in the final 4 minutes of the game as he led the Grizzlies on a 16-9 run to help them pull away from the Suns down the stretch.
