The Memphis Grizzlies travel East on Saturday to face the Philadelphia 76ers. Ja Morant and Co., coming off an impressive 122-99 drubbing of the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday, look to win their second straight game. The injury-hampered Grizzlies hope to walk away from Philly with a win against the injury-plagued hosts.
Nick Nurse’s team is 1-3 mainly because the 76ers haven’t seen Joel Embiid and Paul George play one regular season minute. The two superstars will continue to ride the sidelines over the weekend. Nurse is desperate for somebody other than Tyrese Maxey to answer the challenge.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Philadelphia 76ers: Key matchups
Ja Morant vs. Tyrese Maxey
Two of the best point guards in the NBA will headline Saturday’s matchup between the Grizzlies and the Pacers. Ja Morant, who dazzled with a triple-double against the Bucks, faces Tyrese Maxey, the early scoring leader who is averaging 31.5 points per game. They will not likely take on each other for long stretches but it will be a mouthwatering encounter when they do.
Taylor Jenkins will try to force the ball out of Maxey’s hands and dare his teammates to beat the Grizzlies. Jenkins will risk Kelly Oubre Jr., Caleb Martin and Andre Drummond taking the shots. If Maxey can’t get his usual dose of shots, the Grizzlies could handily win the game.
Zach Edey vs Andre Drummond
Zach Edey, the Grizzlies’ 2024 lottery pick, has struggled against big men who can spread the floor. He is expected not to face that problem when he takes on Andre Drummond. The rookie has shown flashes of paint dominance when he doesn’t have to rotate in the perimeter. Shadowing Drummond in the interior could allow him to have more impact on his team.
Drummond is quietly having a solid start to the 2024-25 NBA season. Without Joel Embiid, he has averaged 9.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. The bruising big man will test Edey’s physicality and nose for rebounds.
