After spending almost a year in limbo, the Cleveland Cavaliers finally waived J.R. Smith last month. Smith played just 11 times during the 18/19 season after publicly criticising the franchise's direction and forced to sit out from November onwards after refusing a buyout.

While much of the Los Angeles fanbase won't be keen on the possible addition of Smith, LeBron James is believed to have a positive relationship with the guard after the pair spent time together in Cleveland, while Smith himself would jump at the chance to play for a contender.

The 33-year-old could also prove a decent contributor from the bench and his ability to knock down threes would come as a welcome boost. An imminent move is not in the works, however, if the likes of Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope struggle to make much impact going forward, the veteran could end up in a Lakers jersey next year.
