The Boston Celtics signed Blake Griffin to a one-year $2.91 million contract on October 3, 2022. Griffin became a free agent after playing for the Brooklyn Nets for nearly two seasons.
The former No. 1 pick was a coveted name for teams looking for a veteran big man heading into the 2022-23 season. Boston sought out Griffin as Robert Williams III was still recovering from two knee operations and needed depth in the frontcourt.
The Boston Celtics just lost to the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals and looked like a prime spot to play for. Griffin knew he would be maximized due to his playoff experience. He could also win his first title if things fall the Celtics’ way.
The former high-flying dunk artist hasn’t seen much action, however, for the Cs since the postseason started. He only played one game in the playoffs and didn’t contribute much. Boston has depended on Robert Williams III and Al Horford with spot minutes for Grant Williams in the frontline.
He will become an unrestricted free agent after his contract expires.
Although Blake Griffin has only earned $2.91 million this season, he has been one of the NBA’s top career earners. After this season ends, he would have accumulated $258 million in 14 seasons, per Spotrac.
