Germany and Serbia locked horns on Saturday to secure a podium finish in the 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medal game. Serbia tipped things off with a Bogdan Bogdanovic 3 as he came off a screen assist set by Nikola Jokic. Andreas Obst responded with a 3 for the Germans on their first possession, suggesting this could be a high-scoring game.
Serbia managed to score on its first four possessions of the game, taking a 9-3 lead. The Germans, meanwhile, started 1 for 4 from the field. Germany struggled with turnovers, similar to their semifinal loss against the host of the Olympics, France.
Meanwhile, the Serbians managed to keep up their offensive efficiency as they did against the USA in the semis, shooting 71% in the first quarter. The Serbians led 30-21 after the opening frame. Nikola Jokic had six assists in the first quarter alone, with six points on 3 of 3 shots.
With Schroder and Jokic on the bench to start the second quarter, both teams seemed flat coming out, struggling to hit shots and get their offense rolling. However, that didn't bug the Serbians much as they extended their lead to 14 points in a matter of minutes (37-23).

Serbia remained consistent with its offense, while Germany offered slight resistance but not for brief stretches. They were nowhere close to their efficiency offensively, making 38% of their shots in the first half. Serbia led 46-38 after the opening 20 minutes.
Germany struggled to start the third quarter, going scoreless for the first two and a half minutes, while Serbia extended its lead to 52-38 behind a 6-0 run. The Serbians restored a 14-point lead in the next couple of minutes. Germany seemed fatigued, failing to keep the ball possession while missing easy shots at the rim. Serbia took advantage and took their biggest lead (64-45).
However, Germany wasn't quitting so soon. They got back into it with a couple of defensive stops to trim the deficit to 11 points. Serbia kept a nine-point lead intact, entering the final frame up 72-63.
The teams exchanged blows in the fourth quarter, but Germany failed to string a huge run together. Serbia kept the scoring alive to keep a comfortable lead until the end, winning the game 93-83 and securing a podium finish at the Olympics.
