The Houston Rockets and OKC Thunder battled it out at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night in the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup semifinals. The Thunder outlasted the Rockets 111-96 in a hard-fought game to book their ticket to the NBA Cup Final on Tuesday.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander overcame a poor shooting first half to finish with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals. Jalen Williams contributed 20 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Isaiah Hartenstein added 21 points and eight rebounds.On the other hand, Amen Thompson had a team-high 19 points off the bench for the Rockets. He also had seven rebounds and three steals, while Dillon Brooks and Jabari Smith Jr. each scored 14 points. It was a low-scoring contest, which was surprising considering how good the Houston Rockets and OKC Thunder are offensively. Kenrich Williams had seven points off the bench for the Thunder. Steven Adams led the way for Houston with four points and five rebounds in five minutes. Alperen Sengun only had two points on 1-for-4 shooting.In the second quarter, both teams still played tremendous defense and turned into an old-school game. SGA scored eight points in the period, but the Rockets were still playing him as tightly as possible.The Rockets still can't find their rhythm individually, but were getting points from every player. Amen Thompson came alive in the second period with 10 points off the bench. The score at halftime was 42-41 in favor of Houston.The offense for both teams improved in the third quarter, with Dillon Brooks catching fire from beyond the arc for the Houston Rockets. Tari Eason also scored a bunch of baskets, while Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet continued to struggle with their shots.Meanwhile, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has settled in and began haunting the Rockets. Lu Dort matched Brooks' production, but the OKC Thunder need more production from their role players. The Thunder had a 75-69 lead heading into the final period.In the fourth quarter, the Thunder dominated and cruised to a 111-96 victory. SGA was nearly unstoppable in the period as the Rockets' defense was no longer there. It was a valiant effort by Houston, but they couldn't find their rhythm in the end.The OKC Thunder are now set to face the Milwaukee Bucks in the Emirates NBA Cup Final on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
