Karl Malone is known as one of the greatest forwards to play in the NBA. So how does the Hall of Famer share similarities to a former seventh-round draft pick in the NFL?

Demetress Bell was drafted in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft. He played for the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys during his career. Bell's father was revealed to be former Utah Jazz and NBA legend Karl Malone. The two reportedly had no contact throughout Bell's childhood.

Bell grew up as a basketball player when it came to his high school days. He had no prior desire to focus on football. That was until he attended Northwestern State University, eventually resulting in his commitment to football.

The former NFL tackle was born to Gloria Bell. Malone was 20 years old at the time of Bell's birth, while Gloria was 13 years old. Malone reportedly didn't meet his son until he was 17 years old. Bell played four total seasons in the NFL before retiring in 2012.

Looking back at career of Karl Malone

There’s no denying that Utah Jazz and NBA legend Karl Malone found his name in the news for questionable reasons off the court. When it came to his play on the court, Malone was one of the most talented forwards in the game of basketball.

Nicknamed “The Mailman,” Malone would go on to stack up the impressive accomplishments throughout his 19-year NBA career. He was a two-time NBA MVP and was a 14-time All-NBA recipient. Malone also was named to four All-Defensive teams throughout his career.

Malone would become one of the top players in the history of the Utah Jazz organization. One of his most impressive seasons came in 1996-97. It would be the first season in which Malone would win a regular seasons MVP award. During that year, Malone averaged 27.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 55.0% from the field.

The legendary forward would have plenty of chances to attempt to secure a NBA Championship, but the Jazz would come up short. Many consider Malone and the Jazz teams some of the best teams to never win a championship. That’s what happens when you keep running into Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
