RJ Hampton and the Miami Heat are preparing for their season opener vs the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, October 25. As such, the young guard was seen shooting threes in practice and looked in good condition heading into the start of the season.

Hampton took to social media and responded to the video of him knocking threes.

"Was interrupted by J rich after making 867 in a row," RJ Hampton wrote.

The 24th pick of the 2020 NBA Draft has already played for three teams, the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons, respectively.

He started logging more time with the Magic, but eventually lost his spot in the rotation. The Magic decided to move on from him and sent him to the Pistons, where he averaged 7.3 ppg, on 48.3 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three in 21 appearances.

However, Detroit parted ways with him and Hampton has now joined the Miami Heat on a two-way deal.

RJ Hampton has played 162 games in the NBA since 2020 and has career averages of 7.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 1.8 apg, on 41.0 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc.

What expectations do the Miami Heat have for RJ Hampton?

The Miami Heat are starting the season with title aspirations, after losing to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals in five games (4-1). This was the team's second appearance in the Finals for the franchise over the past four years (2020, 2023).

They lost the championship on both occasions, and they would like to win this season.

"Having a team that you know is going to be one of those teams competing for a title. And we have one of those teams right now," Erik Spoelstra told media during Miami's Media Day in early October, via NBC South Florida.
"I understand the fan fandom and the buzz and everything," he added. "Everybody wants, you know, change after every single year. You don't know if those changes will lead to anything on those other teams."

The veteran coach, who is considered one of the top coaches in the league, also talked about how playoff experience can help the Heat maintain a title-contending status.

"If you have multiple years of playoff experience, you go through the gauntlet of a seven-game series. That's very specific and relevant information that you're getting back. And that's why one of the reasons why I'm encouraged and excited about this group. We have some collective experiences together," Spoelstra added, via the NBC South Forida.

As for RJ Hampton, he is not expected to get that much playing time over the first part of the season, due to his two-way status, and is expected to split time between the NBA and G-League.
