“It was other s**t” - Patrick Beverley explains why LA Lakers issues weren’t basketball related

Patrick Beverley looks on at a game

Former LA Lakers guard Patrick Beverley had some interesting things to share about the team on the latest episode of his podcast. Speaking on "The Pat Bev Podcast", Beverley highlighted the issues plaguing the team this season.

Patrick Beverley was one of the Lakers' most intriguing off-season signings. After a solid season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Beverley found himself headed back to LA.

Beverley had made a name for himself as a Clipper. Naturally, this made him quite a polarizing figure within the Lakers fanbase. However, his arrival in a Lakers uniform was greeted with positivity regardless.

Unfortunately, his stint with the Purple and Gold was quite short. After failing to make an impact with the team, the Lakers opted to trade Beverley to the Orlando Magic to sign Mo Bamba. Thus ended Beverley's tenure as a Laker.

But the experience itself appears to have left a mark on the guard. Speaking about his time with the Lakers on "The Pat Bev Podcast", Beverley highlighted some aspects of his experience with the team. While speaking about the problems with the team, he said:

"It wasn’t basketball. It wasn’t basketball. It wasn’t basketball. It was other s–t. But other s–t that you really can’t like pin or point out. You know, comes and goes. You know, a little bit here, a little bit there. The vibes were sometimes on, sometimes off. Inconsistent vibes lead to inconsistent play."

Patrick Beverley's comments certainly paint an interesting picture of the Lakers' locker room. Given the trade rumors that have plagued the team since the offseason, it is simple to digest that it could have caused some degree of discomfort.

Following Russell Westbrook's trade, some reports from internal sources also suggested that it felt like a "vampire" had left the room. Whether this is what Beverley was referring to is an unknown. However, the LA Lakers certainly made a lot of moves to change up the atmosphere.

Patrick Beverley's time with the LA Lakers

Although Patrick Beverley's time with the LA Lakers was short, it was rather memorable. Given his constant on-court antics, Beverley always found a way to keep the fans entertained.

Purely on the stat sheet though, Pat Bev was quite underwhelming. While it is understood that Beverley was never going to be a stats guy, he didn't contribute a whole lot outside of his defensive work.

He shot only 34.8% from 3-point range, which is quite low considering his career average of 37.6%. While he did have some valuable performances, such as his 18-point contribution to the win against the San Antonio Spurs, Beverley was a non-factor in most games.

With this in mind, the Lakers probably had the right idea to trade Beverley. Considering that they managed to acquire Mo Bamba in the process, the Purple and Gold have added a solid stretch 5 who offers rim protection as well.

Although Beverley's leadership will be missed in the locker room, the LA Lakers may be better off without him. Meanwhile, with the Magic also waiving Beverley, the guard will be available again in the buyout market.
