Klay Thompson reacts to his 41-point explosion against Houston Rockets: "It felt good to help Steph a little bit"

Klay Thompson had his best game of the season on Sunday night. Thompson scored a season-high 41 points and dropped 10 3-point shots as the Golden State Warriors earned their first road victory of the season against the Houston Rockets.

Speaking to the media about his terrific game in which he shot 60.9% from the field (14-of-23) and 76.9% from the 3-point line (10-of-13), Klay Thompson said:

"Steph [Stephen Curry] has been going off all season long, so it felt good to help him a little bit. I mean it just felt good to have a big game. I am my harshest critic.

"The first 10 games of the season weren't easy for me. To come out and be myself again, it felt incredible. Like I said, it's just something for me to build on and keep going."

Thompson's backcourt partner, Steph Curry, finished with 33 points and 15 assists, going for 7-of-14 from behind the 3-point line. With Andrew Wiggins also knocking down six triples enroute to his 22 points, it was the first time a trio have hit 23 3-point shots in an NBA game.

Speaking to former teammate Festus Ezeli in a postgame interview, Klay Thompson said that there was little teams could do when the Splash Brothers got going. Thompson said:

"Steph is amazing. We kind of take for granted how great he really is or the world does. The only point guard I have ever known to start, to share the backcourt with.

"We both got it going on, you know what that means, there's no stopping that Festus. You've been the beneficiary of that – all those lobs you used to catch and those screens you used to set."

Klay Thompson struggled with his shooting to begin the 2022-23 campaign. The Warriors ace averaged only 15.1 ppg over his first 12 games of the season while shooting career-lows from the field (35.1%) and from behind the 3-point line (33.0%).

Last week, Thompson even took to the social media site, Instagram, to express his frustration about his game while keeping a positive outlook:

“My belief is stronger than your doubt. I PROMISE you it’s coming. And when it does the flood gates will open"

However, Thompson seems to have turned the corner over his last two games. In his last two outings (versus the New York Knicks and the Rockets), Thompson is shooting 22-of-39 (56.4%) from the field and 14-of-23 (60.9%) from downtown. He is also averaging 30.5 ppg in these two contests.

Following their win against the Rockets on Sunday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was asked about Thompson's form over the last two games in relation to his Instagram post. Kerr replied:

"I hope his followers are happy with Klay promising that. I hope there's a lot of good interaction between the followers and Klay and that everybody can be really happy now."
