Golden State Warriors v Houston Rockets
Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson has turned his season around after an abysmal start. Over his past four games played, the Golden State Warriors star is averaging 24.8 points per game while shooting 52.3% from the field, 54.8% from three-point range, and 80.0% from the free-throw line. Thompson has made 23 three-pointers over that span, averaging almost six made triples per contest.

Despite his slow start, his shooting abilities have never been a question, as he has made nearly 2000 in his career. Take a look at how Thompson compares to some of the best three-point shooters of all-time.

Klay Thompson's three-point stats

Despite missing over two and a half seasons due to a torn ACL followed by a torn Achilles, Klay Thompson ranks 16th in NBA history in three-pointers made with 1973. If not for the injuries, the four-time NBA champion would likely be in the top five, as he has accumulated his totals in just about eight and a half seasons of play. Furthermore, Thompson has shot 41.6% from three-point range in his career, showing his ability to combine high volume with elite efficiency.

How does Klay Thompson compare to the best three-point shooters?

The top three three-point shooters in NBA history are widely considered to be Thompson's backcourt mate Steph Curry, and Hall of Famers Ray Allen and Reggie Miller. Curry is the undisputed greatest shooter of all-time with 3211 made triples and counting, nearly 300 more than Ray Allen. Making Curry's shooting abilities even more impressive is the fact that he has been able to shoot 42.8% from long distance.

Ray Allen was able to finish his career with 2973 three-pointers made, retiring as the NBA's all-time leader before being passed by Curry. While Allen's efficiency wasn't as great as Curry, or even Thompson, he did connect on 40.0% of his triples throughout his career.

While Reggie Miller no longer ranks in the top-three of three-pointers made, he is widely recognized as one of the three greatest shooters of all-time. Despite playing the majority of his career in an era where three-point shooting wasn't very common, Miller was able to make 2590 three-pointers, an NBA-record at the time of his retirement. Furthermore, he was able to make 39.5% of his three-pointers.

Although Thompson is exactly 1000 three-pointers behind Ray Allen, it is not rare to see him in the conversation for the second-greatest shooter of all-time. While Allen and Miller averaged 2.3 and 1.8 three-pointers made per game, respectively, Thompson has made 3.0 three-pointers per game throughout his career. His combination of volume and efficiency place him among the all-time greats of three-point shooting.
