LeBron James might have thrown shade towards the LA Lakers front office on Thursday while watching an NFL game. James used the Green Bay Packers as an example of a team not maximing a transcendent talent like Aaron Rodgers by trading picks.

James and his agent, Rich Paul, and hosted an alternate broadcast of "Thursday Night Football" on Amazon Prime Video. The show looked like an episode of "The Shop," with the presence of co-host Paul River.

They had guests such as actors Jamie Foxx and Rob Lowe, Jalen Ramsey of the LA Rams, and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. Early in the 3rd quarter between the Packers and Tennessee Titans, "The King" went on to discuss Green Bay's current situation with Rodgers.

"When you get a transcendent player like Aaron Rodgers, we know the quarterback position in the NFL...that's the most important position in the NFL," James said. "Why wouldn't you surround that when you got the picks to maximize what he can do?"

Paul Rivera then chimed in:

"Are we still talking football or are we talking basketball?"

The question elicited laughter, and LeBron James was quick to respond that it's football. James defended his take, but did add that it could also translate to a basketball situation.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers went on to lose the game. The Packers have been criticized for not surrounding Rodgers with enough talent via drafts and trades. The quarterback is one of the best ever, but only has one Super Bowl championship back in 2010.

Meanwhile, it has been widely speculated that James wants the LA Lakers to trade their two unprotected first round picks to improve the roster. The Lakers are off to a 3-10 start to the season, with James missing the last two games due to an adductor injury.

LeBron James is in the twilight of his career and his window for a fifth championship might be closing. The LA Lakers are not built to be contenders this season, but they could improve by trading players and future first round picks. However, making such moves does not guarantee the Lakers a title.

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, James does not want to waste another season before the Lakers they re-tool next year. However, the team is still reluctant to part ways with their picks because James and Anthony Davis can opt out of their contracts in the summer of 2024.

The Lakers have been linked with Buddy Hield and Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers since the offseason. There were rumors of the team waiting on stars such as Bradley Beal or Zach LaVine to become available, but that might be a pipe dream.
