D'Angelo Russell couldn't help improve his falling stock among LA Lakers fans after a missed layup against the Philadelphia 76ers to close the first half on Friday. Russell and the Lakers were on an 8-0 run and got the steal on the last play. Russell was at the receiving end of the go-ahead pass.
He had just enough time to make the shot before the buzzer, but the veteran guard awkwardly shot the ball from point-blank range, and it bounced off the rim. Russell had already been under immense scrutiny over his lack of attention and discipline lately. Even JJ Redick highlighted that after the Lakers' 131-114 loss to Memphis on Thursday, where Russell was limited to 22 minutes.
The Lakers fans didn't let the point guard off the hook after the halftime buzzer miss against the Sixers. One fan jokingly compared him to an 'on-court' version of former coach Darvin Ham, saying:

"He’s literally an on court Darvin Ham"
"Least Improved Player Of The Year," another added.
"Bro is a**. Remove him from my team," one fan said.
One fan ranted about Russell's lack of seriousness, saying:
"If DLO just took basketball more serious he would be such a stud. He just never has totally bought in and its a damn shame"
"Get ready to learn Chinese buddy," one fan said.
"Bronny would have made it," one fan added.
D'Angelo Russell shines in bench role
D'Angelo Russell's misfit with the starting group and lack of defensive versatility saw him get demoted to a bench role on Friday against the 76ers. JJ Redick chose Cam Reddish to start over Russell. Reddish was coming off an 18-point game against the Grizzlies, where he also impressed defensively.
Reddish is a better fit in the backcourt next to Austin Reaves because of his capability as a point-of-attack threat on defense. Redick and LA benefitted from it and won Friday's matchup 116-106.
D'Angelo Russell played 25 minutes and scored 18 points on 7 of 12 shots, including 2 of 4 from 3. He had a +/- score of +13. Barring the missed layup at the halftime buzzer, Russell played with great discipline and attention to detail. After the game, he said he's all in on winning and "egoless" after his role switch.
