The ongoing saga of Lonzo Ball's knee injury continued this week when it was revealed that Ball will be going through another procedure. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news, revealing that the hope is Ball will be able to resurrect his career once recovering from the procedure.

However, Ball likely will miss the entirety of the 2023-24 season, meaning that by the time he returns, he will have missed over two seasons. Last season, Ball played in just 35 games before being shut down.

According to Wojnarowski, the news comes on the heels of ESPN reporting last week that Ball was deciding whether or not to have the procedure.

Will Lonzo Ball be able to successfully return to the court?

The latest news is a glimmer of hope for Lonzo Ball, who has been dealing with plenty of uncertainty regarding his knee over the last two seasons. Although he had dealt with knee problems throughout his career, he had never missed an entire season until this year.

In fact, early on, there was much speculation as to what was wrong with Ball's knee. The Chicago Bulls front office played its cards close to the vest, revealing little as fans wondered whether the young guard would return this season.

For Ball, it seems as though he has dealt with far more setbacks than most players while recovering from injury. In the modern NBA, players have shown time and time again that they're able to return from catastrophic injuries relatively quickly.

Rarely has the NBA community seen a player miss two full seasons with so much uncertainty about a return.

"I just feel bad for him," Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan said recently. "He's 25 years old, and here he is missing this entire year and next season is uncertain of whatever he elects to do if he does have the surgery. You just feel bad that he hasn't been able to play."

At the time, Donovan said that Ball was weighing his options and getting as many opinions as he could to find a route back to the floor. As criticism continues to pour in for the Bulls training staff for their handling of the injury, Donovan said Ball was doing his own due diligence:

"He's getting as many opinions and help as he can. He's doing his due diligence. And I think once he gets the third, fourth, fifth opinions he's trying to get, he'll make the decision that he's comfortable with."

While the acquisition of Patrick Beverley has certainly helped the Bulls (31-37(, the team still finds itself in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. Sitting one game out of play-in contention, the hole left by Ball's absence continues to define Chicago's season.
